Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s prolonged internal crisis as the reason for his decision.
Suswam’s resignation was contained in a letter dated February 4, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Mbagber Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
In the letter, the former governor expressed dissatisfaction with the persistent leadership and structural بحران rocking the opposition party, describing the situation as unresolved and damaging to its future.
“I consider it honorable and necessary to step aside while wishing the party well, should it one day find the courage and consensus to resolve its long-standing issues,” he stated.
Although Suswam did not disclose the political party he intends to join next, he has been linked to a coalition of opposition leaders who recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their platform for the next general elections.
His exit adds to the growing wave of defections and realignments within Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
