A former Chief Whip and member representing Dunukofia Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Lawrence Ezeudu, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Ezeudu, a known ally of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, announced his defection in a letter addressed to the ADC Chairman of Ifitedunu Ward 2, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Lawrence Akoba.
The defection was formalised during a brief ceremony held on Sunday at the former lawmaker’s residence in Umanugwo village, Ifitedunu.
Speaking with journalists, Ezeudu attributed his decision to what he described as a deepening crisis and poor leadership within the APC at both the local government and state levels.
He said the party’s persistent internal conflicts in Anambra had weakened its political effectiveness and relevance.
“After careful reflection on the activities, crisis, divisions and poor leadership of the APC at the local government and state levels, I have decided to step away from the party to join the ADC and pursue commitments that align with my personal and political convictions,” he said.
Ezeudu added that his move to the ADC was driven by his desire to better serve his constituents and contribute more meaningfully to the development of Anambra State, the South-East, and Nigeria.
“My defection to the ADC became necessary because it is the platform that will offer me the opportunity to serve the people of my constituency better, as well as Anambra, the South-East and Nigeria in general,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to the APC for the opportunities and experiences he gained during his time in the party.
