The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has firmly dismissed reports of internal crisis within the party, insisting it remains laser-focused on its primary goal — winning the 2027 presidential election and taking over Aso Rock.
NDC Denies Crisis, Reaffirms Unity
The party made this declaration in an official statement posted on its verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, directly countering widespread media reports of tensions and divisions within its ranks.
“There are no issues in the NDC. We are focused on taking Aso Rock,” the statement read.
The denial comes amid growing public speculation about the state of relations between the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following a series of public statements that fuelled crisis narratives.
Dickson and Peter Obi Hold Closed-Door Meeting
In a move widely seen as a peace-building effort, Dickson on Friday held a closed-door meeting with Peter Obi to address concerns that had been circulating both within and outside the party.
Speaking after the meeting, Dickson confirmed that the two leaders reviewed the party’s activities and discussed recent issues that had become a source of concern to all sides. He stated that all outstanding issues were amicably resolved.
According to him, party members would continue to consult and engage with one another to address concerns, resolve disputes, and strengthen their collective unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
NDC Eyes 2027 Presidential Victory
The NDC’s firm denial and the high-level meeting between its two most prominent figures signal a deliberate effort to project unity and stability as the party positions itself as a major challenger in the race for the Nigerian presidency in 2027.
With Peter Obi as its presidential flagbearer and Seriake Dickson steering party affairs, the NDC continues to present itself as a credible political force capable of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the next general election.
