Six aspirants vying for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Kano Central Senatorial District have withdrawn from the contest and declared their support for former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
The aspirants — Usman Bala, Sha’aban Sharada, Muhammad Zango, Danyaro Yakasai, Abbas Sani Abbas and Shehu Isa Driver — announced their decision after a meeting held in Abuja on Sunday.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the group said their withdrawal was in the interest of unity, peace and the overall progress of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State.
According to them, endorsing Shekarau forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen the party’s structure and improve its chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We decided to withdraw and support Senator Ibrahim Shekarau to ensure unity and stability within the party and Kano Central,” the aspirants said.
Shekarau recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, a move widely seen as a significant political realignment in Kano politics ahead of the next election cycle.
