A former media aide to late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has suggested that former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso may leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ahmad made the remark on Monday in a post on X, where he speculated on the political implications should former Vice President Atiku Abubakar decide to join the NDC.
According to him, the entry of Atiku into the party could trigger a fresh round of political realignments, potentially forcing Obi and Kwankwaso to seek another platform.
“So what if Atiku Abubakar decides to join the NDC? Peter Obi and Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso will simply pack their bags and look for another party because they cannot stand against him in a primary contest?” Ahmad wrote.
His comment has since sparked conversations online about possible coalition talks and shifting alliances as political actors begin early manoeuvres ahead of the 2027 elections.
