A close ally of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, and former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Idi Hong, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Also announcing his departure from the party is Mohammed Sanusi, a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Fintiri.
Both political figures cited personal reasons for their decisions, although their exits come amid growing speculation that Governor Fintiri himself may be considering a move away from the PDP.
In a resignation letter dated Monday and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Shangui Ward, Hong Local Government Area, Dr. Idi Hong said his decision followed deep reflection on prevailing political circumstances and his future direction.
“I write to formally tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shangui Ward, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, with immediate effect,” Hong stated.
Hong, who served as the PDP state agent during the 2023 general elections, played a prominent role during the post-election crisis that followed the premature declaration of the APC governorship candidate as winner. He described his time in the PDP as meaningful and impactful.
“While taking this step, I acknowledge the role the party has played in my political journey and appreciate all those I worked with during my time in the PDP,” he added.
A trained medical doctor, Hong previously served in several federal capacities under PDP-led administrations, including as Minister of State for Health and later as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
In a separate resignation letter, Mohammed Sanusi, also from Hong Local Government Area, said his decision was based solely on personal conviction and not influenced by external pressure.
“I sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the opportunity to serve and work alongside you. I am grateful for the support and experiences gained during my time in the PDP,” Sanusi wrote.
DAILY POST reports that Sanusi had earlier served as Director-General of the 2023 governorship campaign of APC candidate, Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani, before defecting to the PDP and subsequently securing an appointment as an aide to Governor Fintiri.
