The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to seek legal redress following the omission of its governorship candidate, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) list of candidates for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong. The PDP accused INEC of bias, alleging that the commission deliberately blocked access to its nomination portal codes shortly before the submission deadline, forcing the party to submit Dr Oluyede’s nomination forms manually.
According to the PDP, INEC acknowledged receipt of the manually submitted forms, adding that there is no dispute over the validity of Dr Oluyede’s nomination. The party cited INEC’s own monitoring report, which it said confirmed that the party’s primaries were properly conducted and in line with electoral guidelines.
Describing INEC’s failure to list its candidate as “dangerously high-pitched,” the PDP warned that the action could erode public confidence in the electoral process. The party stressed that the electoral commission must act independently and in the interest of democracy.
The PDP said it has already taken steps to approach the courts to compel INEC to include Dr Oluyede’s name on the final list of candidates, vowing to exhaust all legal options ahead of the 2026 governorship poll.
