David Emmanuel Ombugadu, a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has revealed that he has not yet yielded to the pressures urging him to vie for the position of national chairman of the party.
Last week, a group had launched a campaign urging Ombugadu to enter the race, particularly due to calls for a national chairman from the North Central region, aligning with the party’s initial plan. While the acting PDP national chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagum, hails from Yobe in the North East, Ombugadu represents Nasarawa State in the North Central.
In a statement, Ombugadu acknowledged the intensified calls from various groups and members of the PDP for him to assume a national leadership role. However, he clarified that he has not yet made a decision.
Expressing gratitude for the endorsements based on his past contributions, Ombugadu affirmed his commitment to serving the party when duty calls. He assured supporters that although he has not actively pursued the position of National Chairman, he remains loyal to the party and its leadership.
While urging supporters not to be disheartened by his decision, Ombugadu reiterated his readiness to serve the party in any capacity when called upon. He expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to overcome current challenges and emerge victorious in the future.
Ombugadu also commended the dedication of party leaders, members, and exco members at various levels for their unwavering support. He emphasized the PDP’s commitment to the principles of federal character, justice, equity, and fairness in Nigeria’s political landscape.
