The Coalition of Nigerian Canadian Interest Groups (CONCIG), a network comprising Nigerian Canadian socio-economic and good governance organizations, is gearing up to host a town hall meeting featuring Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2024, the event aims to convene Nigerian and Canadian political stakeholders to deliberate on matters concerning good governance, accountability, and fostering collaboration between the two nations.
According to Vwede J. Obahor, the lead of the coalition, the town hall represents CONCIG’s proactive efforts to foster partnerships between Canadian and Nigerian political stakeholders while advocating for good governance on a global scale.
As Nigerians residing in Canada, the coalition seeks to contribute to nation-building efforts in both countries by facilitating dialogue and building relationships among key stakeholders.
The event will also include esteemed guests such as former gubernatorial Labour Party aspirant Bassey Osagie. Peter Obi will deliver a keynote address focusing on the themes of “Capacity Building and Inclusiveness in Governance.”
Fabian N. Nwaoha, the coalition’s coordinator, highlighted the objective of forging an alliance beneficial to both Nigeria and Canada by engaging diaspora Nigerians and Canadian government officials.
Organizers expressed enthusiasm about the widespread interest the event has garnered among Nigerians and friends of Nigeria across Canada and beyond. Peacevalentine Ojika, the communications lead, affirmed that CONCIG has been diligently preparing to ensure a successful gathering that will contribute to charting a positive trajectory for both nations.
