Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has provided assurances to President Bola Tinubu that the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is “united and prepared” for the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
Speaking to journalists after paying Sallah homage to Tinubu in Lagos, Oshiomhole, who also serves as the senator representing Edo North, expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects in the forthcoming election.
“We are gearing up for elections. We are optimistic and have made all necessary arrangements to secure victory in the upcoming election because our party is unified, and we have resolved all issues stemming from the primaries,” Oshiomhole affirmed.
He disclosed that the APC has established a “campaign council” and is eagerly awaiting the announcement of the election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to commence campaigns on April 24.
While expressing confidence in the APC’s readiness, Oshiomhole acknowledged that opposition parties, including the Labour Party, are grappling with internal challenges. “Our opponents are dealing with various crises, and even the Labour Party has its share of issues, unlike the APC,” he noted.
Oshiomhole, who governed Edo State from 2008 to 2016, briefed Tinubu on the state’s developments and emphasized the president’s support for the APC’s endeavors. “We await INEC’s directive on April 24 to commence our activities. Tinubu is supportive, but we understand that the responsibility of voting lies with us, the Edo people,” he asserted.
The APC leader stressed the importance of effective campaigning and mobilization to convey a message that resonates with Edo residents.
Additionally, Oshiomhole praised recent positive economic developments, highlighting the strengthening of the Naira, which he attributed to effective management by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
“We are witnessing a significant improvement in the value of the Naira, which has appreciated from its low point to the current level,” Oshiomhole remarked, commending the CBN’s management of the foreign exchange system for the Naira’s resurgence.
