The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State has inaugurated caretaker committees for all 21 local government areas, following the departure of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and several party members to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Each temporary committee comprises a chairman, a secretary, and three ex-officials, tasked with managing party affairs ahead of local elections, in line with the PDP constitution.
During the inauguration in Yola, legal practitioner John Tunoh administered the oath of office, urging committee members to adhere strictly to both the PDP and national constitutions.
State interim PDP chairman Belmont Dogo emphasized the importance of grassroots structures for party strength. “As local government caretaker committee members, you represent the engine room of the party in your respective areas,” he said. “It is your responsibility to help reposition the party, rebuild confidence among our members, and prepare the ground for future successes.”
Speaking on behalf of the committees, Fufore LGA caretaker chairman Inuwa Umar pledged commitment to strengthening the party despite recent defections.
The PDP in Adamawa faces a challenge to reorganize after notable figures, including Governor Fintiri, his commissioners, special advisers, and several lawmakers, joined the APC on February 27. The new caretaker committees are expected to stabilize the party and prepare it for upcoming contests.
