Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the recruitment of 150 additional personnel into the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) as part of efforts to enhance emergency response and public safety across the state.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday by the Controller General of the agency, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, in a statement signed by the LSFRS Public Affairs Officer, Mrs Maira Fadairo, in Lagos.
Speaking while flagging off the LSFRS Squad 23 Adeseye Training Exercise in Ikeja, Adeseye said the recruitment reflects the state government’s continued commitment to building a resilient, well-equipped, and professionally trained fire and rescue service.
“This latest recruitment underscores the present administration’s sustained commitment to strengthening emergency response capacity in Lagos State,” she said.
Adeseye noted that the recruitment follows earlier landmark interventions by the Sanwo-Olu administration aimed at improving fire safety and disaster management. She recalled that 100 firefighters were recruited in 2020, on the eve of the COVID-19 pandemic, to bolster frontline emergency operations.
According to her, the administration recorded the highest single recruitment in the history of the Lagos State Fire Service in 2022 with the enlistment of 435 firefighters. Their Passing Out Parade, she said, formed part of the Service’s Golden Jubilee celebrations held in October 2022.
She added that the milestone event also featured the commissioning of 62 fire-fighting apparatuses, the unveiling of new fire stations at Ajegunle, Ebute Elefun and Oba Oniru–Lekki, as well as the inauguration of a purpose-built, ultra-modern headquarters at Alausa, Ikeja.
Adeseye disclosed that the newly recruited 150 firefighters, who were employed in November 2025, have since commenced intensive training at the upgraded LSFRS Fire Academy.
“They are currently undergoing the Professional Basic Firefighting Competency and Short Service Course, designed to mould them into disciplined, highly skilled and operationally efficient emergency responders in line with global best practices,” she said.
She reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to continue investing in human capacity development, modern infrastructure and operational equipment to safeguard lives, property and the environment across Lagos State.
