ABEOKUTA, Ogun State – The Ogun State Police Command has officially filed a six-count criminal charge against prominent activist Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as Just Adetoun, accusing her of cyberbullying and the dissemination of false information via social media.
The charges, filed before the Federal High Court in Abeokuta, follow a series of viral videos in which Onajobi leveled stinging criticisms against the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun. Police have now declared the activist “evasive” after she reportedly failed to honor multiple invitations for questioning.
Allegations of Fabricated Medical Reports
According to a statement released Monday by Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command first invited Onajobi on January 2, 2026. Rather than appearing, the activist’s legal team submitted a medical report claiming she was unfit to travel.
However, police investigations suggest the document was a “ruse.”
- Doctor Arrested: The medical practitioner who issued the report was taken into custody.
- Confession: Police allege the doctor admitted the report was fabricated following a phone conversation with Onajobi.
- Arraignment: The doctor has since been arraigned in a Magistrates’ Court for conspiracy, uttering a false document, and obstructing the course of justice.
“The suspect, Adetoun Onajobi, has remained evasive and has rebuffed every invitation extended to her by the Police. Her current whereabouts are unknown,” Babaseyi stated.
The Content of the Conflict
The legal battle stems from videos Onajobi posted following a tragic road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in December 2025. The accident involved the entourage of British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua, resulting in the deaths of two of his friends and trainers.
In her online broadcasts, Onajobi made several pointed allegations against the state government:
- Lack of Emergency Care: She claimed the state lacked a single functional ambulance to respond to the crash.
- Mismanagement of Funds: She alleged the governor prioritized “spending public funds on parties” over urgent public safety needs.
- Resource Allocation: She contrasted the lack of medical equipment with the state’s purchase of new SUVs for Local Government Chairmen in late 2025.
“Free Speech is Not Absolute”
The Police Command maintains that while the Nigerian Constitution protects free speech, it does not provide immunity for what they term “criminal conduct” under the Cybercrimes Act.
“Constitutionally protected activities such as free speech have lawful limits,” the statement noted, adding that the command will “exhaust all lawful means” to apprehend Onajobi and bring her before the court.
Investigators are reportedly trailing other individuals suspected of assisting in the dissemination of the alleged false information. As of press time, Onajobi has not issued a fresh public response to the filing of the six-count charge.
