The Zamfara State Government has announced that the upgrade of the Sardauna Memorial Stadium in Gusau has reached 90 per cent completion.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mr Haruna Dikko, disclosed this on Friday while inspecting the ongoing project in Gusau, the state capital. Dikko, who was accompanied by other senior officials of the ministry, spoke to journalists shortly after the inspection.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the project site, assuring that the upgraded stadium would be completed and delivered by February.
According to Dikko, the stadium was in a dilapidated state and largely unusable when the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal assumed office in 2023. He said the current government was determined to complete the rehabilitation and return the facility to active use.
He noted that the upgraded stadium would serve as the home ground for Zamfara United Football Club and also host other sporting and social events, which he said would help generate revenue for the state.
Dikko commended the project contractors, Monimichelle Sports Company, for what he described as a quality job, and assured them of the state government’s continued support to ensure timely completion of the project.
Meanwhile, the engineer handling the project, Mr Terngo Williams, assured that the stadium would be delivered as scheduled.
Williams conducted the permanent secretary and other officials on an inspection tour of key facilities, including the 1,000-seat pavilion, players’ dressing rooms for two teams, sanitary facilities, referees’ room, medical room and a designated area for ball boys.
He also showed them the main bowl of the stadium, where water drainage pipes are currently being laid ahead of the installation of synthetic turf.
Williams said all materials required to complete the remaining work were already on site.
“We are working hard not only to complete the project but to do so strictly according to specification,” he assured.
