The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has emphasised that his administration’s development agenda goes beyond road construction and housing projects to include health, education, and human capital development.
Speaking during the inauguration of the long-abandoned Ahoada Zonal Hospital, a project he inherited at its formation stage, Fubara expressed pride in the administration’s efforts to improve healthcare across the state. He described the commissioning as a culmination of years of dedication to strengthening health services.
The governor noted that the Ahoada Hospital forms part of a broader plan to enhance healthcare delivery across Rivers State, assuring that facilities in Degema and Etche would be completed and commissioned by the end of March 2026. He also reassured residents that ongoing projects in Ahoada would be completed, with new initiatives launched based on community needs.
Speaking at the event, Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, highlighted the administration’s achievements in primary healthcare, presenting awards recognising Rivers State’s consecutive three-year win as the best in primary healthcare in the South-South region, each carrying a $500,000 prize.
The Ahoada Zonal Hospital, according to Oreh, is a 105-bed secondary facility spread across four floors, featuring separate blocks of staff quarters, and is expected to significantly boost healthcare access for residents.
