The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area, following the completion of the first phase.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the works focused on restoring the bridge’s expansion joints inbound Lagos Island will begin on Tuesday, August 19, and continue until October 1, 2025.
The statement, signed by LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, explained that traffic along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway/Lagos Toll Gate axis inbound Oshodi and Victoria Island would be diverted at the bridge. Vehicles will be streamlined into a single lane 50 metres before and after the construction zone.
Bakare-Oki advised motorists to use alternative routes. Those heading towards Oshodi can divert through the Ojota Slip Road linking Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (by Taxi Park). Motorists bound for Victoria Island may use the Ojota Slip Road through Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony, connecting to Gbagada and the Third Mainland Bridge, or alternatively via Funsho Williams Avenue to access Eko Bridge.
He added that motorists from Ikeja and adjoining areas could connect Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue through Maryland to proceed via Eko Bridge to Lagos Island.
The LASTMA boss assured commuters that officers had been strategically deployed along affected corridors to ease congestion, enforce lane discipline, and respond swiftly to emergencies.
“Motorists are enjoined to exercise patience, prudence, and civic responsibility, as this partial closure is a critical component of the state’s traffic management strategy aimed at delivering lasting infrastructural benefits for Lagosians,” he said.
