Following his legal victory at the Supreme Court, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, has extended an olive branch to political opponents and called for collective efforts toward the state’s development.
The apex court on Wednesday affirmed Okpebholo’s candidacy, dismissing all challenges to his nomination in the lead-up to the Edo governorship election scheduled for September 2025.
Addressing supporters and journalists in Benin City shortly after the verdict, Okpebholo described the ruling as a “victory for democracy, justice, and the good people of Edo State.”
“I call on all members of our party, and indeed every Edo son and daughter, to set aside their differences and join hands with us in building a better future for our state,” he said. “This is not a time for division — it is a time for unity and purposeful development.”
The lawmaker, representing Edo Central Senatorial District, thanked the judiciary for upholding the rule of law and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, economic empowerment, and infrastructural renewal.
Party leaders and supporters flooded the APC secretariat in celebration, describing the court decision as a major step toward reclaiming leadership in the state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Political observers say the ruling has now cleared the path for full-scale campaigning, with the APC hoping to unseat the PDP-backed candidate and incumbent administration in what is expected to be a fiercely contested race.
Meanwhile, Okpebholo has pledged to unveil a comprehensive policy blueprint in the coming weeks, focusing on job creation, education reform, agricultural development, and improved security.
