Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has firmly dismissed circulating rumours of his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a strongly worded statement released on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, the governor described the rumours as the handiwork of “mischief makers bent on causing unnecessary political tension” in the state and beyond.
“I remain firmly rooted in the APC. My loyalty to the party is total and unquestionable,” Governor Oyebanji said. “These baseless rumours are nothing but political propaganda driven by those threatened by the progress we are making.”
Social media platforms and some online blogs had earlier reported that Oyebanji was in talks with ADC leaders over a possible move ahead of the 2027 elections. The reports triggered mixed reactions among party loyalists and opposition figures in the state.
However, the governor’s media office described the reports as “a deliberate attempt to distract the government and sow discord within the ruling party.”
Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s focus on delivering good governance and sustaining the development agenda in Ekiti State. He also used the opportunity to call for unity within the APC, urging party members to remain vigilant and not fall for divisive tactics.
“The APC remains a strong, united platform for progress in Nigeria. We will not allow rumours to derail the mission we are on,” he added.
Party leaders at both the state and national levels have also rallied around the governor, praising his leadership and reaffirming confidence in his continued stewardship under the APC.
The governor is currently in the second year of his tenure and has received national praise for his infrastructural initiatives, education reforms, and digital governance policies.
