In a gesture of goodwill and support, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has provided a surprise welfare package of N120 million to the state’s pilgrims currently performing the 2025 Hajj in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The financial support, announced during the governor’s visit to the pilgrims’ accommodation in Makkah, is intended to ease their expenses and ensure their spiritual journey is completed with comfort and dignity. The announcement was met with jubilation and prayers from the over 2,000 Kwara pilgrims present.
“This support is part of our commitment to the wellbeing of our people, even while they are away fulfilling their religious obligations,” Governor AbdulRazaq said. “We are proud of the discipline and conduct of our pilgrims and want to ensure they are well taken care of throughout their stay.”
Officials from the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board confirmed that the funds would be distributed equitably among the pilgrims. According to them, the support will help cover feeding, transportation, and other incidental costs incurred during the holy pilgrimage.
Pilgrims expressed gratitude for the unexpected financial relief, describing it as timely and reflective of a governor who remains in touch with the needs of his constituents.
“We are overwhelmed by this generosity,” said Hajia Aminat Bello, one of the pilgrims from Ilorin. “This has made a big difference for many of us here in the Holy Land.”
The gesture also drew praise from religious leaders and Hajj officials, who said it demonstrates proactive leadership and compassion at a time when many pilgrims face financial strain due to rising foreign exchange costs and inflation.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who also performed Umrah during his visit, urged the pilgrims to pray for the peace, progress, and unity of Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
This marks one of the largest single welfare interventions for pilgrims from any state during this year’s Hajj season.
