Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has appointed Mr. Emmanuel Offiong as the new Chief Press Secretary (CPS), signaling a renewed focus on strategic communication within his administration.
The announcement was made in an official statement released by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, on Monday. The appointment takes immediate effect.
Offiong, a seasoned journalist and media consultant with over two decades of experience in print and broadcast journalism, is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the government’s public engagement strategy.
According to the statement, the new CPS is tasked with enhancing transparency, improving media relations, and ensuring that government policies and initiatives are effectively communicated to the public.
Before his appointment, Offiong served as a senior editor with a national daily and has been widely recognized for his professionalism and depth of experience in political reporting and public affairs.
Governor Otu expressed confidence in the new spokesperson’s ability to effectively manage the government’s communication portfolio, especially in an era where public trust and clear messaging are critical to governance.
Political observers see the appointment as part of a broader effort by the Otu administration to reposition its public image and streamline information dissemination as key policy decisions and development initiatives unfold in the state.
Offiong replaces Mr. Linus Udo, who served in the position since the start of the administration and is expected to be reassigned within the state government.
The new CPS is expected to resume duties immediately and has pledged to maintain open lines of communication with the media and the public.
