Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Founder and CEO, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, announced on Thursday that Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses will soon become available to the Nigerian public, offering a more affordable transportation option. This development follows a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Chukwuma described the initiative as a significant advancement for the country’s transportation sector, emphasizing the benefits of CNG. He explained that his company has been preparing for this shift by producing vehicles and kits designed to run on CNG.
“I’ve discussed this with President Tinubu, and we will soon see many CNG buses on the road,” Chukwuma told journalists. He added, “The government’s CNG initiative is the best idea for transportation in Nigeria because it provides numerous advantages, which I recognized before starting the factory.”
President Tinubu had earlier announced a nationwide plan to distribute up to a million CNG kits at low or no cost to commercial vehicles. This initiative is part of a broader effort to shift from oil-based fuels to natural gas, which Tinubu argues will save Nigeria approximately N2 trillion per month. The President’s plan aims to reduce the country’s reliance on imported petrol and diesel, redirecting savings towards investments in healthcare and education.
Chukwuma urged Nigerians to be patient with the current administration, emphasizing the potential long-term benefits of the CNG initiative for the nation’s economy
