Detractors Accused of Intimidation and Police Harassment
Rt. Hon Evans Bapakaye Bipi, the former chief whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly, made startling revelations about what he termed as exorbitant amounts of money paid by detractors in an attempt to disrupt governance in the state and unseat Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Bipi shared this information during a thanksgiving service held to commemorate Governor Fubara’s Supreme Court victory in Akinima, the headquarters of Ahoada-West local government area.
Representing the governor at the event, Bipi pointed out that the detractors, out of fear, have allegedly resorted to intimidation and harassment of Fubara’s supporters in the state, utilizing the police as willing tools in their agenda. He also cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be cautious of certain individuals in his cabinet, highlighting their alleged mischievous roles against former President Goodluck Jonathan during their political ascent.
Welcoming defectors from the Labour Party (LP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other opposition parties in the state, Hon Robinson Ewoh, Vice Chairman of PDP, Rivers West Senatorial District, emphasized that, according to the constitution of Nigeria and the PDP, Fubara holds the leadership position in the party in Rivers State. He asserted Fubara’s authority to use the red biro to maintain leadership.
In his reception speech, Hon Sokari Goodboy, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, reiterated Ahoada-West LGA’s unwavering support for Governor Fubara, expressing solidarity until the end. Goodboy also issued a warning to the chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Hope Ikiriko, indicating preparations for a petition of accountability regarding the alleged destruction of properties worth millions at the initial venue of the thanksgiving/reception service.
