“President Tinubu Urged to Overhaul Cabinet Amid Economic Crisis, Calls for National Unity”
Article:
Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, President of the Ebonyi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (EBCIMA), has called upon President Bola Tinubu to undertake a significant cabinet reshuffle aimed at salvaging Nigeria’s economy and fostering national unity.
In a press briefing in Enugu on Monday, Dr. Ezeh, also a chieftain of the Labour Party, criticized the Tinubu administration for what he termed the “announcement effect” caused by the abrupt removal of petrol subsidies. He highlighted that while many Nigerians supported ending the subsidy regime, the lack of a well-planned transition and adequate public communication has exacerbated economic challenges.
“The current suffering poses a serious socio-political threat to Nigeria’s corporate existence,” Ezeh warned, emphasizing the need for competent leadership to navigate the country through its current economic crisis.
Drawing parallels with past administrations, particularly under President Obasanjo, Ezeh suggested that Tinubu should emulate Obasanjo’s approach of assembling a diverse and competent cabinet. He proposed a cabinet composition of 35% technocrats, 45% politicians, and 20% bureaucrats from across Nigeria, advocating for a ‘War Cabinet’ to tackle the economic challenges effectively.
“Leadership should involve guiding citizens through the dark nights of necessary reforms,” Ezeh asserted, urging Tinubu to learn from historical successes in national economic revival.
As Nigeria grapples with rampant corruption, economic downturn, and societal challenges, Ezeh’s call for a revamped cabinet aims to instill confidence and competence in addressing pressing national issues under Tinubu’s administration.
