The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said the ruling party is not protesting recent amendments to the Electoral Act because it recognises the constitutional authority of the National Assembly of Nigeria.
Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television, Morka dismissed claims that the APC was manipulating the process, stressing that the Electoral Act is a product of legislative procedures carried out by elected representatives across party lines.
According to him, the law, which has now been assented to by the President, applies to all political parties, including the APC. He noted that provisions such as the mandatory electronic registration requirement affect his party as well.
Morka emphasised that although the APC holds a majority in the National Assembly, it would be incorrect to attribute every legislative decision to the ruling party alone. He argued that the legislature is made up of members from different political parties and operates within its constitutional mandate.
Responding to criticisms from opposition figures, including Kenneth Okonkwo, Morka maintained that the Electoral Act was duly passed by lawmakers and signed into law by the President, and therefore remains binding.
He added that the APC has no reason to intimidate any group and will continue to operate within the framework of the law.
