Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said that taking up a role in government would not stop him from continuing his career as an artiste.
Speaking during a recent livestream with Davrel, the award-winning singer explained that he believes public service and music can coexist, although his performance schedule might reduce if he assumes political office.
“If I ever decide to work in government, I would still be performing. I don’t think that stops anything,” Davido said.
He pointed to former Haitian President Michel Martelly as an example, noting that Martelly, who had a background in music, continued performing even while serving as president.
“Obviously, it won’t be as much as before. Michel Martelly was a musician while he was president of Haiti, and he still performed. He even went on tours during his presidential vacations,” he added.
However, Davido revealed that his enthusiasm for entering politics has declined. According to him, observing the experiences of other celebrities who transitioned into politics has made him reconsider his ambitions.
He claimed that many Nigerian entertainers who ventured into politics have struggled to achieve meaningful success, a development that has made him more cautious about pursuing a political career.
Davido said he was previously interested in politics, but the current realities have made him more skeptical about taking that path.
