Security forces have arrested three suspected bandits and recovered firearms and ammunition during an operation in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The arrest was disclosed in a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who said the operation was carried out around 10:00 a.m. on April 29 along the Tangaza-Gidan Madi road following intelligence reports of a planned attack in the area.
According to the report, the suspects were identified as Aliyu Bello, 30; Dahiru Umar, 25; and Bashar Isah, 29. They are said to be from Kwazari village in Kware Local Government Area.
The trio was reportedly intercepted while riding a motorcycle and is suspected to be part of a criminal network involved in kidnapping and the collection of illegal levies from communities.
Items recovered from them include a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, two Dane guns, two cartridges, and charms.
The weapons were allegedly concealed inside a sack placed in another bag in an attempt to evade detection.
Security sources said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the group and to forestall further attacks in the area.
