The former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, remains in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) despite being granted bail by an Abuja High Court on December 23, 2025, his aide has stated.
Bello Doka, Malami’s media aide, described the continued detention as illegal, accusing the EFCC of using the media to spread inaccurate narratives about the ex-AGF, who has complied with all bail conditions and submitted himself for thorough investigations.
“His continued detention constitutes a breach of legal procedures and a blatant abuse of office by the commission, which is expected to respect and comply with court orders,” Doka said, adding that it portrays the EFCC as an institution placing itself above the law.
Doka further asserted that holding Malami after a court-approved bail infringes on his fundamental human rights and warned that such disobedience could undermine democracy and public confidence in the commission’s ability to administer justice.
He also alleged that EFCC officials refused to receive the court bailiff delivering the order, continuing to detain Malami in defiance of the law. Doka challenged the commission to arraign Malami before a competent court and to cease the alleged media trials and dissemination of false narratives.
