Ilorin, Sept. 2, 2025 — Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday presided over a marathon security council meeting in Ilorin, where he received detailed briefings on ongoing operations aimed at tackling insecurity across the state.
The closed-door meeting was attended by heads of all security agencies operating in the state as well as top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, and security advisers to the governor.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor was informed of multiple arrests, prosecutions, and the interception of arms from non-state actors in different parts of Kwara.
“The commanders gave details of all ongoing operations across the state, including multiple arrests, prosecutions, and intercepts of arms from hostile non-state actors,” the statement noted.
Agencies that briefed the governor included the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Army, Navy, Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Immigration Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser were also present.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended the security forces for their “sacrifice and professionalism,” pledging continued government support for their operations. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide actionable intelligence to aid law enforcement.
The meeting comes amid rising concern among stakeholders over worsening insecurity in some parts of the state, particularly Kwara South and Igbomina land, where villages and families have faced attacks from suspected bandits.
In reaction to the security situation, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, called on Governor AbdulRazaq to establish a state-backed security outfit, similar to Amotekun in the South-West, to complement federal security operations.
