Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the Etihad until 2029, with an option for a further 12 months.
The 28-year-old Portugal international, whose previous deal was set to expire in 2027, has been a key figure for Pep Guardiola’s side since his £65 million move from Benfica in 2020.
Dias was named Premier League Player of the Year in his debut season and has since helped City secure four league titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the EFL Cup.
Reacting to the extension, Dias expressed his delight at continuing his career in Manchester.
“I am incredibly happy today. I love Manchester it is my home now and I love the Manchester City fans. When I think about the trophies we have won and how we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else,” he said.
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, hailed Dias’ influence both on and off the pitch, describing him as “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch.”
With Dias’ future secured, attention is expected to turn to contract talks with other key players. John Stones and Bernardo Silva both have one year remaining on their deals, while goalkeeper Ederson and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan are also in the final year of their contracts.
Meanwhile, Spanish midfielder Rodri, playmaker Phil Foden, and defenders Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake all have two years left on their current agreements. Rising star Rico Lewis is also reportedly close to signing a new five-year deal.
