A prominent Niger Delta socio-political group has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what it described as their “development-driven leadership and commitment to regional peace.”
Operating under the banner of the Niger Delta Progressive Front (NDPF), the group made the announcement during a press briefing in Warri on Wednesday, stating that both leaders have demonstrated “visionary governance” and deserve continuity.
Chairman of the group, Comrade Godwin Ebikeme, said the endorsement was based on what he called “visible progress” in infrastructure, security, and economic empowerment in the region under the current administration.
“President Tinubu has shown genuine interest in the stability and development of the Niger Delta. His appointments, policy focus, and continued engagement with the region are commendable,” Ebikeme stated.
He also lauded Governor Oborevwori’s performance in Delta State, pointing to ongoing road projects, education reforms, and social welfare programmes as evidence of responsive governance.
The endorsement comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with various regional groups beginning to position themselves in support of favored candidates.
Analysts say while such endorsements are largely symbolic at this stage, they reflect early signs of political momentum and grassroots mobilization.
The NDPF urged other Niger Delta stakeholders to unite behind leaders who have demonstrated “results, not rhetoric,” while warning against divisive politics.
Neither the Presidency nor Governor Oborevwori’s media team has issued an official response to the endorsement as of press time.
