The crisis surrounding local government administration in Osun State has deepened as a prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wale Oke, has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to respect the recent Appeal Court ruling affirming the legality of the sacked local government chairmen elected during the previous administration.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Oke criticized what he described as the governor’s continued defiance of judicial authority, warning that such actions undermine the rule of law and threaten democratic governance at the grassroots level.
“The Appeal Court has spoken clearly. It is now left for Governor Adeleke to demonstrate respect for the judiciary by reinstating the affected chairmen,” Oke said, urging the state government to halt what he called “unconstitutional appointments” of caretaker committees.
The legal tussle stems from Adeleke’s dissolution of elected council officials shortly after assuming office in 2022. The court ruling, delivered in favor of the former officials, has reignited tensions between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition APC.
Analysts warn that the lingering impasse may disrupt service delivery at the local level unless swiftly resolved through legal and political consensus.
