Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has taken a swipe at Bode George, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), questioning his role and contributions to the party’s political fortunes in Lagos State.
Speaking at a public event in Abuja, Wike demanded answers on the PDP’s performance in the state, arguing that despite years of leadership under George’s watch, the party has struggled to make significant inroads.
“Who has Bode George produced in Lagos? Show us the people he has made politically relevant,” Wike asked pointedly, stirring debate within the party’s Lagos chapter. “For all his talk, what has he achieved in that state?”
The remarks have reignited internal divisions within the PDP in Lagos, where members have long sparred over strategy and leadership direction. While George has often been regarded as a party elder and power broker, critics argue that his influence has not translated into tangible political victories in the state.
In response, allies of Bode George have defended his record, pointing to his decades of service to the party and his role in nurturing grassroots support. “Chief George remains a respected leader and his legacy speaks for itself,” said a party source.
Political observers believe Wike’s comments reflect growing frustration over the PDP’s inability to wrest control of Lagos from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). As the party eyes future elections, internal debates over leadership and strategy are expected to intensify.
The PDP has yet to issue an official statement addressing Wike’s challenge, but party insiders say the question of leadership in Lagos will remain a focal point as they regroup for upcoming electoral contests.
