The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has declared that the victory of its governorship candidate in the recent Edo State elections is a strong indication that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is assured.
In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday, Adamawa APC Chairman Idris Shuaibu stated that the Edo election confirms that the President is on the right track, attributing the party’s success to Tinubu’s developmental programs which he believes resonated with voters.
“The President’s human development policies, such as student loans, local government autonomy, and the creation of a livestock ministry, are evidence that the country is finally moving towards meaningful development,” Shuaibu remarked.
Describing the Edo governorship poll held on September 21 as one of the most free and fair elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in recent times, Shuaibu expressed confidence in Nigeria’s democratic future under Tinubu’s leadership.
He praised the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for effectively organizing security during the election, suggesting that the President has surrounded himself with capable advisors.
Shuaibu also expressed confidence about the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, predicting an easy victory for the APC, while asserting that Adamawa State will revert to the party’s control by 2027.
“It is very clear to the PDP that Adamawa State will automatically return to APC. The President has shown Nigerians the road to development, so we are going to recover our stolen mandate in the state,” he stated.
In contrast, the Adamawa Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) quickly condemned the results, labeling the Edo governorship election a “daylight political robbery.” PDP Chairman Abubakar Shehu claimed that their candidate had received the highest legitimate votes and accused the APC of electoral manipulation.
At a press conference in Yola, Shehu stated that the alleged misconduct by the APC could not have occurred without the involvement of INEC and some security personnel, calling it a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy. He warned that such actions would further erode public trust and contribute to voter apathy in future elections.
