President Bola Tinubu is currently overseeing the 18th meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Aso Chambers of the State House in Abuja. The meeting, which is the first in six weeks, follows the President’s series of international engagements in Equatorial Guinea, China, and the United Kingdom.
Tinubu arrived at the council chambers at 12:25 p.m., with only 21 of his 47-member cabinet in attendance. Among those present are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Key ministers attending include Wale Edun (Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy), Abubakar Kyari (Agriculture and Food Security), Abubakar Bagudu (Budget and Economic Planning), Festus Keyamo (Aviation and Aerospace Development), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Nyesom Wike (FCT), Mohammed Idris (Information and National Orientation), and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (Interior).
Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in New York, leading Nigeria’s delegation to the United Nations General Assembly.
Before the meeting formally began, SGF George Akume led council members in a minute of silence in honor of former Minister of Women and Youth Development, Mrs. Salome Jankada, who passed away on August 27, 2024.
While the exact agenda for Monday’s meeting is yet to be disclosed, sources suggest a list of memoranda related to various ministry projects is expected to be discussed and approved.
