Abuja, Nigeria – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rejected claims made by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf that hired miscreants, disguised as protesters, looted sensitive documents related to the corruption trial of the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. The allegation was made following a recent incident where a court in Kano was vandalized during nationwide anti-hunger protests.
In a statement released on Thursday by Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, the APC dismissed the governor’s claims as “preposterous and baseless.” The party criticized the Kano State government for suggesting that protesters had specifically targeted and stolen documents related to Ganduje’s corruption trial.
“It is laughable that governance has been reduced to a huge joke in Kano where a state government could condescend low to suggesting that demonstrators broke into a court and carefully selected documents relating to the trial of the APC national chairman, handpicked and took them away in this digital age,” Olofu stated.
Governor Yusuf had visited the vandalized court on August 14 and claimed that “enemies of the state” had orchestrated the attack to disrupt the legal process against Ganduje. He asserted that the vandals were on a sponsored mission to undermine justice in the state.
In response, Olofu questioned the credibility of the governor’s statement, arguing that no discerning individual would believe such “pedestrian propaganda.” He also criticized the Kano State government for its handling of the incident, accusing it of using the claim as a diversion from its own failures in managing the state’s affairs.
“This claim is nothing more than a desperate attempt by Governor Yusuf’s administration to divert attention from their culpability in the violence that erupted in the state,” Olofu said. He added that the insinuation that critical legal documents could be stolen during a protest was a “clear indication of the state’s growing incompetence in handling both security and legal matters.”
The APC spokesperson also emphasized the importance of responsible leadership, urging Governor Yusuf to recognize the weight of his words and actions. He called on the people of Kano to remain calm and law-abiding while the authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
As the political tension between the APC and the Kano State government escalates, this incident highlights the ongoing challenges in ensuring security and maintaining public trust in the judicial process within the state.
