The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Kano Zonal Command has received 12 female victims of human trafficking. The victims, aged between 15 and 40, were rescued by the Kano State Police Command on August 3 while being transported along Tsanyawa Federal Highway on their way to Libya for labor exploitation.
NAPTIP Zonal Commander, Mr. Abdullahi Babale, confirmed that three suspects—Shafi’u Salisu, 25, from Bachirawa Quarters, Kano; Rebecca Adebayo, 22, from Kwara State; and Mujibat Olagoke, 27, from Oyo State—were arrested in connection with the case. The victims hail from Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, and Imo States.
Babale praised the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salman Dogo-Garba, for his support and announced that the suspects will face legal proceedings once investigations are complete. He assured that the victims would undergo counseling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families.
The NAPTIP commander urged parents to safeguard their children from trafficking and called on the public to report suspicious activities to relevant authorities for swift intervention.
