Lagos — As protests erupt across Nigeria over economic difficulties, an unnamed individual drew attention in Lagos State on Thursday by staging a protest while naked. The man, captured in a viral video, was seen walking through the streets of Ojota, joining other demonstrators, and singing “Solidarity Forever.”
The nationwide protest, which began on August 1, 2024, is part of the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria movement. Citizens are voicing their frustration with the prevailing economic conditions and calling for government action.
Despite a court order restricting their movement, protesters in Lagos defied the directive and took to the streets, including roads and Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, to express their discontent.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, reassured the public through a statement on X.com, emphasizing that the police were present to ensure the safety and security of all individuals involved.
“The area is calm!” Hundeyin wrote. “The Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, visited the protest sites at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, and other locations such as Alausa and Lekki toll gate. He found the protests to be peaceful, and non-protesting residents are carrying out their daily activities without interference.”
Hundeyin added that monitoring of the situation would continue, with the police prioritizing the safety and security of both protesters and the general public.
