Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) governorship candidate in the 2022 Ekiti State governorship election, has announced her defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Her decision, she stated, stemmed from personal reflections on the last election and extensive consultations with stakeholders.
Elebute-Halle, who secured 3,495 votes in the 2022 poll, disclosed that she had been approached by multiple political parties but ultimately chose the APC. She cited the party’s familial atmosphere and Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s unexpected displays of love and respect as key factors in her decision. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the new ADP State Chairman, Mr. Ayodeji Ojo, held at the party secretariat in Ado Ekiti.
She commended Ojo’s eight years of diligent service to the party, expressing confidence in his ability to elevate the ADP to greater heights. Additionally, Elebute-Halle highlighted APC’s support and celebration during her father’s burial as indicative of the party’s values.
Asserting that she harbors no ambition to vie for the governorship ticket against Governor Oyebanji, she emphasized her alignment with APC’s renewed hope agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Despite her departure, she pledged ongoing support to ADP financially and encouraged party members to rally behind the new Chairman to strengthen the party.
ADP members, including the chairman, expressed gratitude for Elebute-Halle’s contributions and acknowledged her departure with a sense of loss.
