Gathering of ‘Obidients’ Reflects on Election, Stresses Ongoing Pursuit for Positive Change
Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, reiterated that his commitment to advocating for a better Nigeria is an enduring journey. Speaking at a gathering of his supporters, known as ‘Obidients,’ in Abuja to reflect on the 2023 presidential election one year after, Obi emphasized the ongoing struggle for positive change in the nation.
The event, organized by renowned activist and founder of Free Nigeria Movement, Dr. Moses Paul, drew notable figures such as FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe, Prof Pat Utomi, Aisha Yesufu, Kenneth Okonkwo, Halida Dokubo, Gen John Enenche, and others to the Merit House in Abuja.
Addressing the participants, Peter Obi asserted that the quest for a better Nigeria has just commenced and encouraged the youth to reclaim the country from those treating national leadership as a criminal enterprise. He emphasized that every patriotic Nigerian should consider the pursuit of a new and improved Nigeria as their entitlement.
Obi stated, “For me, the journey to a better Nigeria has just begun. It is a lifelong journey. On that journey, despair is not an option. Surrender is not a choice. Failure is not even a remote possibility. The nation has heard us. The youth have carried the mantle of changing their destiny and the direction of our country. They cannot wait to take back their country from those who regard national leadership as a criminal racket.”
He added, “We have kindled the fire of patriotism and possibility among our people. That fire will never die or go off until our aim is achieved. Every true Nigerian, every patriotic Nigerian must embrace the goal of a new and better Nigeria as an entitlement.”
Dr. Moses Paul, the organizer, expressed that the event aimed to appreciate and honor those who supported Peter Obi throughout the 2023 presidential election. He highlighted the significance of the ‘Obidients’ movement, stating that its energy transcends political affiliations.
Other speakers at the event, including Prof Pat Utomi, Kenneth Okonkwo, Aisha Yesufu, reiterated the resilience of the ‘Obidients’ and their unwavering commitment to the ongoing fight to reclaim Nigeria for positive change. They emphasized that despite challenges faced during the 2023 election, the journey to secure the nation’s future continues.
