Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to resign if they cannot offer sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the nation. The PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) emphasized that the suffering experienced by Nigerians transcends tribal, religious, or party affiliations and urged the APC-led government to address the issues rather than resorting to blame-shifting and propaganda.
In response to criticism from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who accused PDP governors of mischief over their comparison of Nigeria to Venezuela, the PDP-GF reiterated that the APC sought power to solve Nigeria’s problems, not exacerbate them. The governors emphasized the need for the federal government to play a significant role in mobilizing resources for sustainable solutions and urged it to gracefully step down if unable to do so.
The statement from the PDP-GF, signed by its director-general, Hon. CID Maduabum, highlighted that hardship and suffering are not confined to any specific region, religion, or political party, and the federal government holds a disproportionate role in finding solutions. The governors refuted claims that states under PDP governance were delinquent in areas such as payment of minimum wage, gratuities, and pensions, pointing out that the issues were not exclusive to their party.
The PDP governors affirmed their commitment to collaborative efforts with the president to address the challenges created or intensified since 2015, expressing hope that his leadership would bring Nigeria out of its current difficulties. They underscored the principle of co-operative federalism and acknowledged the collective responsibility to find lasting solutions to the nation’s pressing issues.
