Dr. Blessing Agbomhere Raises Concerns Over Alleged Schemes by Oshiomhole
Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant in the upcoming November 2024 governorship election in Edo State, has sounded the alarm regarding purported plans to impose a candidate on the party. Accusing former national chairman Senator Adams Oshiomhole of orchestrating the imposition, Agbomhere asserted that party members in the state would resist such efforts and instead choose a candidate with a clean record capable of winning the governorship seat.
The former South-South zonal organizing secretary of the APC claimed that Oshiomhole is working to influence APC National Chairman Dr. Abdulahi Umar Ganduje to appoint Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma as the chairman of the Edo State Primaries Committee. Agbomhere alleged that plans involve inflating votes in favor of the preferred candidate, with minimal votes allocated to the remaining 11 aspirants.
According to Agbomhere, Uzodinma’s role in the Edo State Primaries is seen as a gesture of gratitude for Oshiomhole’s support in securing the APC ticket for him in Imo State in 2018. In a statement from Abuja, Agbomhere emphasized that stakeholders in the party have consistently advocated for transparent primaries in Edo State. He accused Oshiomhole of disregarding these calls and attempting to impose a candidate, a move that would undermine the democratic principles upheld by President Bola Tinubu.
Agbomhere urged the APC’s National Working Committee to prevent Oshiomhole from causing turmoil within the party, warning that if unchecked, the alleged plot could lead to a significant crisis, resulting in a catastrophic loss for the APC in the November governorship election.
