Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing a 22-year friendship and confidence in the President’s economic and structural reforms.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, Soludo stressed that his loyalty transcends party lines.
“President Tinubu is my friend; he has been my friend for 22 years now and counting, so you don’t deny your friend,” the governor said. “I support him, and I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the areas of the economy and structural reforms. We’re taking the right steps and we need to stay the course.”
He described Tinubu as “in high spirits, hale and hearty,” and called on political parties with progressive ideologies to form a broad coalition to deepen democracy and accelerate national development.
Security and empowerment in Anambra
On the security situation in Anambra, Soludo said his administration was pursuing a comprehensive strategy combining “kinetic and non-kinetic” measures.
He credited the state’s Homeland Security Law, passed in January, with helping to drive out “deadly native doctors” who allegedly enticed youths into crime.
The governor highlighted an ongoing youth empowerment programme that has trained 5,000 beneficiaries so far, with funding for an additional 8,700 set to be disbursed within the next two months.
“We’re creating several thousands of youth millionaires within our first three years,” Soludo said, adding that the government’s focus on intelligence gathering, infrastructure, and social investment was aimed at addressing hardship and ensuring lasting peace.
