The internal crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State deepened over the weekend as the party announced the suspension of a former member of the House of Representatives and nine other party officials over alleged anti-party activities and misconduct.
In a statement issued by the APC ward leadership in the Argungu Local Government Area, the suspended individuals were accused of breaching party rules, undermining internal cohesion, and engaging in actions deemed detrimental to the unity and progress of the party.
Among those suspended is Hon. Aminu Musa Habib, a former federal lawmaker who represented Argungu/Augie Federal Constituency. Others include local party executives and key grassroots mobilizers whose roles have been pivotal in past election cycles.
“The decision followed extensive consultations and is in line with the constitution of our great party. We cannot allow acts that threaten the structure and integrity of the APC in Kebbi State,” the statement read.
The suspended officials are alleged to have participated in activities that contravened the directives of the state party leadership during recent intra-party engagements, including mobilizing parallel structures and openly criticizing party decisions in public forums.
Sources within the party hinted that the suspension may be connected to lingering tensions from the last primaries and leadership tussles within the state chapter, which have continued to polarize members.
Reacting to the development, a spokesperson for the affected former lawmaker described the suspension as “politically motivated and without due process,” warning that it could further deepen divisions within the party if not urgently addressed by the national leadership.
Political analysts say the suspension reflects growing unrest within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, as factions jostle for control and influence in key northern states.
The Kebbi APC has promised to maintain discipline and uphold party values, while urging members to remain committed to unity and internal democracy.
As the situation unfolds, observers are watching closely to see whether the national leadership of the APC will intervene to resolve the rift or allow the state chapter to manage the fallout internally.
