The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has celebrated the academic success of 60 students on its scholarship scheme who graduated with first-class honors in various competitive disciplines between 2016 and 2023. This achievement was announced on Thursday by Dr. Charles Ariye, Head of Education for the PAP, who praised the students’ outstanding academic performances at several partnering universities.
The students excelled in fields such as electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, civil engineering, accounting, law, petroleum engineering, physics, international relations, and biochemistry. Among the recent top performers is Kemien Egbekun, who graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.77 (first class) in Law from Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Delta State. Two other PAP-sponsored students at the same university, Oladapo Damilola and Toikumo Prosper, achieved second-class upper-division honors in Law.
The trio participated in the university’s 6th convocation ceremony on September 6, 2024. Ariye noted that while results for 2024 are still being compiled from various institutions, Egbekun and her colleagues have added to the growing list of PAP beneficiaries excelling in their studies.
Dr. Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, expressed his pride in the academic accomplishments of the students supported by the scheme. In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Otuaro emphasized the program’s role in advancing human capital development in the Niger Delta.
“We are elated by the fantastic academic performances of the PAP scholarship scheme students,” Otuaro said. “Achieving such impressive grades as first-class and second-class upper divisions is no mean academic feat. These achievements reinforce the fact that the PAP is on the right track in implementing its mandate.”
Otuaro attributed the success of the program to the unwavering support from President Bola Tinubu, noting that the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda aligns with PAP’s goals of peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region.
“We must thank President Tinubu for his strong support for the programme and the undying love he has for the people of the Niger Delta,” Otuaro added. “He is committed to sustainable peace and development, and his support is key to these academic successes.”
The Presidential Amnesty Programme continues to play a vital role in fostering education and vocational training as tools for lasting peace and progress in the Niger Delta.
