As political momentum begins to build ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, Senator Monday Okpebholo has pledged to deliver an ambitious 2.5 million votes from Edo State in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, should he seek a second term.
Speaking during a strategic meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benin City, Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to mobilizing grassroots support and ensuring the state becomes a stronghold for the ruling party.
“We are not just making promises — we are laying the groundwork to deliver. Edo people are ready, and with our renewed structures, we will give President Tinubu nothing less than 2.5 million votes,” Okpebholo declared to thunderous applause.
The senator, who represents Edo Central in the National Assembly, also emphasized the role of youth and women in the campaign machinery, assuring that local party units will be empowered to carry out door-to-door mobilization and strategic voter engagement.
Political observers, however, note that Edo State traditionally leans towards opposition parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), making Okpebholo’s projection both bold and politically symbolic. In the 2023 elections, APC had a mixed performance in Edo, which adds a layer of complexity to the senator’s declaration.
In response, local APC leaders lauded Okpebholo’s confidence and described it as a rallying call to reposition the party in Edo ahead of the polls.
With nearly two years until the election, all eyes are now on Edo State to see whether the APC can turn political aspirations into electoral gains.
